Satellite SAC - C

Space

SAC-C satellite, placed in orbit in November, 2000, is an example of a high integration South American space project. It weights 460 kg and carries on board three optical cameras designed to collect data useful for agriculture, industry and government administration applications.  Besides, it has three systems with cutting-edge satellite technology: two for control and navigation and one for collecting data transmitted from ground automatic environmental monitoring stations.
SAC-C also houses three scientific sensors that provide data on geophysical parameters, such as the geomagnetic field or humidity values in high atmosphere.  The various instruments for basic and applied research that share a common platform were provided by five countries associated in this mission.  This level of integration makes missions collaborative and multinational, and contributes to reduce the costs of space campaigns.
